About Data Insights

Hi, I'm Kristin Fitzgerald.

I’ve been analyzing data for over ten years (nearly two decades if you count my early science fair projects), and I’m passionate about using data to generate meaningful insights that make a real difference in people’s lives.

My career journey started at a local hospital, where I worked as an intern in data analysis and systems engineering while finishing my degree in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University. One of my early projects involved analyzing patient flow data to design a “Fast Track” for low-severity cases in the Emergency Department. That project sparked an intense desire to use analytical thinking to solve real-world problems and live out my alma mater's unofficial motto: "In the nation's service and the service of humanity."

That passion led me to the MITRE Corporation, a non-profit think tank and contractor that runs several different research centers for the federal government. During my nearly ten years there, I tackled projects ranging from veterans’ benefits and domestic violence response to medical therapeutics evaluation, opioid policy, federal decision support, and even endangered species modeling. While at MITRE, I also tackled a Master of Science in Analytics from Georgia Tech.

In recent years, I relocated to Blacksburg, Virginia (Go Hokies!) and decided to take a new direction—one that lets me share my skills more directly with small businesses and organizations, while also creating space to prioritize my family. That’s how Data Insights was born.

My goal is to make data approachable and practical. I specialize in helping businesses get the most out of their data using tools that are often free and familiar, like spreadsheets. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to take your analytics to the next level, I’m here to help you turn numbers into knowledge.
